Overview

Richard is a partner in the Firm’s restructuring and insolvency team, comprising specialists throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia.

Richard is based in London but has extensive cross-border and international experience, advising creditors (including banks and other financial investors and steering committees), insolvency office holders and corporate debtors and their directors on a wide range of workouts, business recoveries, stressed financings and insolvencies.

Work Highlights

Richard leads on many of the firm’s domestic and international key restructuring and insolvency deals. These include advising:

  • the creditors and debtors on the financial restructurings of European leveraged buyouts, including Primacom (Germany), Terreal (France), Seat Pagine Gialle (Italy), Foxtons (UK) and Global Garden Products (Italy)
  • financial institutions on bank failure and resolution planning in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, including Bankas Snoras (Lithuania), African Bank (South Africa) and other European and UK based institutions
  • creditors, debtors and other stakeholders on complex multi-creditor/stakeholder financial restructurings and recoveries, including Zim (Israel), VSZ (Slovakia), Parmalat (Italy and Latin America), Tiscali (Italy), Railtrack/Network Rail (UK), Metronet (UK), Ashanti (Ghana)
  • the administrators on both pre pack and trading administrations and on other insolvencies, including Woolworths, Republic, McCarthy & Stone and Lehman Brothers International (Europe)(LBIE)

Professional experience

Richard speaks regularly at client events, including at a recent seminar in Abu Dhabi and Dubai on issues including the new UAE Insolvency Law, the impact of the current oil price environment, lessons learned from sales of European Non-performing Loans (NPLs) and Brexit.

Education and qualifications

Richard studied law at Birmingham University.
