06 November 2008
Linklaters has won the award for Legal Services relating to Shipping Finance at the 5th annual Lloyd’s Shipping Economist, Ship Finance Awards held at the Café Royal in London on Tuesday night.
The award, which recognises pre-eminence in the provision of legal services supporting ship finance deals and contracts of all types, either based on input to a specific deal or in terms of general activity and notable achievements over the past 12 months, was awarded to Linklaters in recognition of its high profile roles on many of the leading, cross-border deals of the past year. These include advising:
- Compañía Sud Americana de Vapores S.A. (CSAV) on the $600m pre-and post-delivery financing for the acquisition of four 12,562 TEU vessels and two 6,300 TEU vessels
- Schahin Engenharia SA of Brazil on a US$800m subordinated secured debt financing for an offshore drilling project as part of a US$1bn project to construct two semi-submersible platforms
- Flex LNG in relation to the construction agreements for the development of the “world's first” LNG production vessel
- Sakhalin Energy Investment Co Limited and the project sponsors on the US$20bn Sakhalin II LNG project - the world's largest limited recourse oil and gas financing
Robert Fugard, global head of asset finance at Linklaters, commented:
"This is a tremendous accolade, which recognises the outstanding quality of our people in London and our overseas offices and our cutting-edge advice on many of the most complex, cross-border and strategically important ship finance deals in the past 12 months."
Linklaters’ award-winning ship finance practice sits within the firm’s broader asset finance practice. Partners, Neil Harnby and Olga Petrovic joined Managing Associates, Andrew Pirrie and Sarah Dean and clients at the awards ceremony to collect the award.
