The third and final consultation on the Carbon Reduction Commitment (“CRC”) closed on 4 June 2009, with the Government response expected in the autumn. The legislation is due to be in final form before the year end, for scheme commencement on 1 April 2010.
Given its complexity, participating businesses may want to plan their compliance strategies now to maximise financial and reputational benefits under the scheme. Careful preparation should also help them to avoid the potentially large penalties imposed on those who fail to comply fully.
