Linklaters elects three new partners in Asia

Linklaters has announced the election of three new partners and four new counsel in Asia.

18 new partners were elected worldwide with two-thirds of them based outside London. The new partners represent eight practices across each of the firm’s three divisions and 11 offices.

The elections take effect on 1 May 2009.

Linklaters’ new partners in Asia are:

Umesh Kumar: Umesh joined Linklaters in March 2008. He is a member of Linklaters’ Greater China financial markets regulatory practice, based in Hong Kong. Umesh advises the full range of financial institutions including investment and commercial banks, asset managers and insurers on the regulatory issues relevant to their businesses.

Samantha Thompson: Samantha joined Linklaters in January 2006 and is a member of Linklaters’ leading regional Corporate/M&A practice. Samantha has a strong reputation in Hong Kong in domestic and cross-border transactions including those that require expertise in Hong Kong Listing Rules and, particularly, the Hong Kong Takeovers Code.

Jiro Toyokawa: Jiro joined Linklaters’ Corporate/M&A practice in Tokyo at the time of the firm’s Japanese merger in 2005. Jiro specialises in corporate/M&A work and advises international clients on Japanese law transactions in Japan, as well as Japanese clients on non-Japanese law transactions.
