inklaters today announces that Daniel Dufner will join the firm’s New York office as a partner. Dan was formerly a partner at White & Case LLP. His expertise in both public & private US M&A will bring added depth to Linklaters’ US and global M&A practice.

Dan has represented longstanding clients DISH Network Corporation, EchoStar Corporation and WellPoint, Inc. for several years on a number of high-profile transactions. Highlights of recent deals include Express Scripts' $4.7bn acquisition of WellPoint’s pharmacy benefit management business, the successful spin-off of EchoStar from DISH Network, the formation of EchoStar’s DISH Mexico joint venture and WellPoint's $6.5bn acquisition of WellChoice, Inc.

Linklaters’ New York Co-Managing Partner Nick Rees said:
“Dan is an excellent addition to our US corporate team and will enhance our existing platform. Dan’s arrival is the latest in a series of new additions to our New York practice in the past few months. These include Alberto Luzarraga from Shearman and Sterling, Jeffrey Schmidt, former Director of the Bureau of Competition of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and, most recently, Lewis Steinberg, formerly Global Head of the Strategic Solutions Group and Managing Director of the Investment Banking Department at UBS and, prior to that, Co-Head of Tax at Cravath Swaine and Moore LLP.”

David Barnes, Linklaters’ Global Head of Corporate, said:
“The addition of Dan will broaden and deepen the firm’s already robust US M&A practice. Dan is a high-quality lawyer, with solid deal experience, an international outlook and a proven ability to develop client relationships.”

Dan Dufner said:
“Linklaters is a market leader in M&A globally and it is also building a team of the highest quality in the US. A combination of global strength, US platform and ambition for the US makes Linklaters a very exciting firm to join.”

Dan was elected a partner at White & Case LLP in 2004. Before that, he was an associate at Sullivan & Cromwell. BTI, a professional market research firm based in Boston, interviewed over 250 corporate counsel at Fortune 1000 and other large organisations and included Dan among 148 attorneys nominated by clients for “superior client service” in the BTI Client Service All-Star Team for Law Firms 2008.

Dan will join Linklaters’ US corporate practice, which has worked on some of the largest cross-border M&A deals in the world. The team advises many of the firm’s non-US clients on cross-border M&A and in-bound US investments, as well as US-based businesses on out-bound cross-border M&A transactions.

In the US, Linklaters has built a full service team of around 150 US lawyers in New York and more than 90 US lawyers in ten other major jurisdictions around the globe.
