Linklaters launches global training programme for managing associates

07 May 2009

MA Diploma course is first of its kind

Linklaters announces the launch of a new global MA Diploma course for all managing associates across the firm.

The diploma is being run through the Linklaters Law & Business School, a world class educational framework. The school was launched in 2008 to provide ongoing professional development for all people at the firm at every stage of their career.

The MA Diploma complements other courses that are already up and running, such as the New Lawyer Global Orientation Programme and the global Practice Diplomas, for associates - both of which were launched in September 2008.

The MA Diploma, which starts as of 1 May 2009, will be offered to all managing associates and will provide a comprehensive package of knowledge and skills development.

A personal development plan will be at the core of the course, which will last up to three years. The personal development plan will set individual targets for each MA in terms of attending and delivering training and general knowledge activities.

As part of the diploma, all MAs will attend two global core skills programmes: Managing Associate Core Skills shortly after promotion, and the Managing Associate Development Centre approximately 18 months to two years after promotion to MA. There will also be a number of elective courses that MAs will be eligible to attend as part of the Diploma, including areas such as business development, negotiation skills, performance coaching and business management skills.

Michael Voisin, Global Knowledge & Learning Partner at Linklaters, said:

“I am excited about the launch of the MA Diploma as it completes the core framework of learning for our associates under the Linklaters Law & Business School. The MA Diploma is also distinctive as it incorporates a requirement to contribute to the firm’s knowledge activities in recognition of the developmental benefit that this brings.”

Simon Davies, Managing Partner at Linklaters, said:

“We’re committed to ensuring each generation of our legal and business services staff are learning new skills and new ways of thinking, in order to ensure we continue delivering consistent results for our clients."
