New members appointed to Linklaters Law & Business School advisory board

25 June 2009

Linklaters today announces the appointment of Professor Jan Dalhuisen and Dr Christian Rau to the advisory board of the Linklaters Law & Business School.

The Linklaters Law & Business School was established in September 2008 to provide ongoing professional development for all people at the firm at every stage of their career.

It features – for the first time among any professional services firm – an advisory board of legal and business academics, General Counsel and Linklaters partners who provide insight, market knowledge and global expertise to challenge and direct the firm’s learning and knowledge activities.

Professor Dalhuisen and Dr Rau join Ashish Nanda, Professor of Practice at Harvard Law School; Bertrand Moingeon, Deputy Dean at HEC Business School; Simon Davies, Linklaters Firmwide Managing Partner; Michael Voisin, Linklaters Global Knowledge & Learning Partner and Sir Christopher Bellamy QC, Linklaters Senior Consultant in Competition and EU Law on the advisory board.

Professor Dalhuisen, a well-known international commercial arbitrator and financial specialist, has been Professor at Kings College School of Law since 1996. He also occupies a chair in international finance at the Catholic University of Portugal in Lisbon. He was previously a senior investment banker and Secretary General of the International Primary Market Association (now the International Capital Market Association). He is also a regular Visiting Professor at UC Berkeley, and earlier at Tsinghua University Beijing and UNSW Sydney.

Dr Christian Rau is the Chief Legal Officer at Linde, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of industrial gases with 52,000 employees worldwide. He leads a team of more than 70 legal professionals in 17 offices around the globe. Dr Rau joined Linde in July 2007, having spent eight years at Johnson & Johnson, an international health care company, in Belgium and the US, where he was Assistant General Counsel. Prior to this he was a lawyer at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Commenting on the appointments, Michael Voisin said: “I am delighted to welcome Professor Dalhuisen and Dr Rau to Linklaters Law & Business School’s advisory board. Their external insights will be invaluable in helping to shape the firm’s knowledge and learning strategy. Their appointments demonstrate the value we place on knowledge and learning at Linklaters, which is essential if we are to deliver consistently excellent advice to our clients.”

Professor Dalhuisen said: “A law firm’s success is dependent on its ability to get the most out of what it knows and has learned. I look forward to working with the other advisory board members to help develop best practice knowledge and learning at Linklaters.”

Dr Rau said: “I am impressed with the level of professionalism, enthusiasm and consistency with which Linklaters approaches knowledge and learning. Involving stakeholders from outside the law firm in a systematic fashion is likely to benefit Linklaters and clients alike.”
