Linklaters' Zili Shao to take up new role as Chairman and CEO of China at J.P. Morgan

23 November 2009

Linklaters announces that Zili Shao, Asia Managing Partner, will be leaving the firm at the end of January 2010 to take up the position of Chairman and CEO of J.P. Morgan’s China businesses. He will assume the role from the firm’s Hong Kong and Beijing offices and have responsibility for all operations in China.

Zili has been a partner at Linklaters for 11 years, during which he has made a significant contribution to the firm, both in building and leading the firm’s China practice for 10 years and, more recently, in leading the firm in Asia.

Linklaters’ Firmwide Managing Partner, Simon Davies, said:

"Zili is an exceptional partner and a good friend to many at Linklaters. While his departure will be a great loss to the firm, we respect and support his decision to take on this exciting challenge with one of the world’s leading financial services institutions. It is testament to the leadership qualities of Linklaters’ many talented individuals that enables one of our own to move into roles of this nature.

"Zili’s legacy is the firm’s market leading position in Asia and in China specifically, where our depth of expertise and local knowledge, spread over 190 lawyers, has seen us on more significant and complex ‘China firsts’ over the years than any other firm.

"We look forward to working closely with Zili as a client. He leaves with our thanks and very best wishes."
