Linklaters announces that David Cheyne, currently the firm’s senior partner, will become a consultant at the firm, after his term as senior partner comes to an end on 30 September 2011.
As a consultant, David - who is recognised as one of Europe’s most experienced M&A lawyers - will continue an active client-facing role, on both a relationship and transactional level.
David joined Linklaters in 1972 and became a partner in 1980. He was global head of the firm’s corporate department from 2000 to 2005 and was then elected senior partner of the firm in 2006, for a five year term.
Throughout his 39-year-career at Linklaters, David has been involved in a wide range of corporate transactions, involving all types of M&A work, joint ventures, flotations and general corporate finance work. Significant transactions he has advised on include BP’s acquisition of Amoco, Vodafone’s acquisition of AirTouch and Mannesmann, Billiton’s dual listed merger with BHP, Anglo American's acquisition with the Government of Botswana and the Oppenheimer family of De Beers and Dubai World's acquisition of P&O.
For more than ten years, David has been jointly ranked as the UK’s highest-rated M&A lawyer according to the Chambers UK Directory.
