Linklaters and Magus join forces to help businesses make sense of new European cookie laws
26 September 2011
Linklaters, the global law firm, and Magus, the leader in website quality and compliance monitoring, have joined forces to provide a new service to clients, following the implementation of European rules on cookies.
The rules require organisations to obtain consent from the users of their websites for the use of certain cookies. Although European states were supposed to have implemented the new rules into their national laws by 25 May 2011, few have provided guidance on what organisations should do in practice in order to be compliant.
Working together, Linklaters and Magus will be able to offer a full solution to their clients by carrying out a technical review of their websites and following up with legal recommendations to help establish a European-wide plan for compliance. In this way, clients can be confident that they are taking all the necessary steps to manage their compliance risk under the new rules.
Marly Didizian, Linklaters TMT partner, said:
“By combining our unique strengths we can offer clients a full solution to address both the technical and legal challenges that these new rules present. This is a great opportunity for us to show our multi-jurisdictional capabilities and we look forward to helping our clients adapt to meet the requirements that this legislation demands and may demand over time.”
Simon Lande, CEO of Magus added:
“Using our ActiveStandards website management and compliance platform, we are able to offer businesses a comprehensive insight into their web presence. Our service provides detailed information on cookies usage within websites, along with related issues such as privacy and web beacons. Combined with the legal expertise from Linklaters, this will enable businesses to manage their cookie usage on an ongoing basis, and develop an informed strategy for addressing the ePrivacy Directive.”
