  • Banking & Finance: 1st. Tier
    Pedro Siza Vieira is head of the projects and finance department at the Lisbon branch of this City firm. He recently advised Arcus Group in regards to financing a management buyout of Babcock & Brown European Infrastructure Fund. Francisco Ferraz de Carvalho was also involved in the deal. A younger partner at the team, sources say he is "especially knowledgeable about international processes." 
  • Capital Markets: 1st. Tier
    António Soares leads the practice and is cited across the sector as a leader in terms of both experience and quality of practice. Soares' detailed knowledge of the market, with a particular emphasis on securities, and his proactive approach have won him a strong client base amongst domestic and international clients. Clients also appreciate André Júdice Glória's legal acumen and quick response times. He recently advised Credit Suisse in its role as joint lead manager on the issuance of EUR224 million exchangeable bonds by Controlinveste International Finance.

    Practice head António Soares combines M&A knowledge with capital markets expertise. His successful track record and client-facing approach has seen him build a strong practice in pan-European and international-wide deals. Sources hold Jorge Bleck in high regard as one of the leading lawyers in Portugal for corporate and M&A work. Marcos de Sousa Monteiro is regarded by clients as a lawyer with a bright future ahead of him. His recent work has included a number of cross-border deals taking in jurisdictions across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
  • Dispute Resolution: 2nd. Tier
    Miguel Pinto Cardoso's practical approach attracts praise from clients, who also note his ability to manage teams through complex arbitration and litigation proceedings. Pinto Cardoso led the team advising Pfizer on a series of disputes relating to IP infringements. Nuno Ferreira Lousa is developing a strong reputation, one enhanced by advising PwC, as administrators of Lehman Brothers, on issues of compatibility between UK and Portuguese insolvency law.
