The Parliamentary Joint Committee has made some recommendations on the draft Bribery Bill.
In summary, the Committee:
-
strongly welcomes the draft Bill;
-
agrees with the proposals to create two new main offences of bribing and being bribed; and
-
agrees with the introduction of a new offence targeted at companies and partnerships which fail to prevent bribery by their employees and/or agents.
However, the Report makes several criticisms of the Bill as currently drafted and includes a number of recommendations as to issues that need to be considered further before the Bill is implemented into law.
