Community Investment, Italy, C Beccaria
The Istituto Penale per Minorenni “C Beccaria” is Milan’s correctional facility for minors. We assist with volunteer work, administrative and legal advice and funding. The project includes three phases: during Phase 1, selected young offenders are offered technical training in a variety of fields such as gardening, bakery, catering, motorcycle repairs and home repairs. They are paid for their work, part-funded by Linklaters; in Phase 2, the offenders receive administrative and financial advice and begin organising their work as a “virtual enterprise” inside the correctional facility; and during Phase 3, a cooperative, which is part owned by the ex-offenders, is established to provide employment when they leave the Beccaria facility.
