Experience
Paul focuses his practice on complex civil litigation, white-collar criminal defense, government regulatory matters and internal corporate investigations. He also has experience handling securities class actions as well as derivative, antitrust, product liability and insurance coverage litigations in federal and state courts.
In criminal and regulatory enforcement matters, Paul represents foreign and domestic companies before various federal and state law enforcement agencies. Recent experience includes:
- representing Royal Ahold, the international food provider, in its precedent-setting settlements with the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
- conducting an internal investigation of a large U.S. insurance brokerage company stemming from the on-going regulatory investigations into the insurance industry
- representing various senior executives of a multi-national corporation in a Foreign Corrupt Practices Act investigation
With respect to civil litigation, has handled a number of securities class actions and related derivative suits. His experience includes representing:
- a global pharmaceutical company in the vitamins antitrust litigation, one of the largest price fixing cases ever filed
- a major American automobile manufacturer in numerous product liability class actions relating to a tire recall and related personal injuries
- a major property and casualty insurer in numerous environmental, products liability and bad faith coverage cases, including serving as trial counsel on a multi-million dollar jury/bench trial with favorable verdicts in both phases
