Paul Kuipers specialises in a wide range of insolvency related matters, stressed and distressed reorganisations and debt restructurings. Paul also advises on issues with regards to the European Insolvency Regulation.

Paul is a regular speaker at conferences and seminars dealing with various restructuring topics. He is the Dutch Country correspondent for International Corporate Rescue and a member of the following bodies: the International Bar Association (section on Restructuring and Creditors Rights (SIRC), Insolad (the Dutch insolvency specialist association), InsolEurope (the European insolvency specialist association) and Vereniging Corporate Litigation.

Paul studied Law at University of Groningen and followed a Postgraduate Grotius Insolvency Course at University of Nijmegen, which he finalised with honours.

Recent transactions include advising:

  • PwC as administrators on the largest ever UK insolvency of Lehman Brothers International (Europe)

  • E.ON Benelux N.V. on its supply relationship with InfraXS Energy B.V.

  • on Dutch law aspects of a restructuring of an existing acquisition and working capital facility involving a partial debt for equity swap, the issue of loan notes instead of equity to an Indian syndicate bank and the granting of new working capital facilities

  • a trustee on international insolvency issues occurring in the successful recovery of €500m bonds under a Polish guarantor and its Dutch incorporated issuing subsidiary

  • Equity Trust Co. N.V., a leading Dutch trust managing company, on a series of agreements regarding Dutch incorporated subsidiaries in the collapse of a US-based listed company
