Experience
Sarosh Mewawalla is a specialist in the banking and project and export financing sectors, with particular focus on multi-sourced financings involving a combination of commercial lenders, ECAs and/or multilateral agencies.
Sarosh has worked on major projects and acquisitions since 1993 and has acted on some of the most high profile transactions in the infrastructure, oil and gas, petrochemicals, LNG, power and PFI sectors in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Transactions of significance where substantial involvement can be disclosed have included advising:
- in relation to the Riyadh PP11 Power Project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- and leading the Linklaters team advising the export credit agencies (SACE, Hermes and KEXIM) and commercial lenders in relation to the financing of the US$2.8bn SEPC petrochemicals plant in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- the finance parties (PIF, the export credit agencies and the commercial lenders) in respect of the US$8.5bn Jubail Refinery Project, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- the finance parties (PIF, the export credit agencies and the commercial lenders) in respect of the US$8.5bn Jubail Refinery Project, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
- in relation to the €1.5bn financing for Tirreno Power in Italy;
- on the financing of the 400MW Voghera CCGT power project in Italy;
- in relation to the €1bn project financing and refinancing of the ISAB power project in Italy
- on the acquisition and subsequent resale of Fiddlers' Ferry and Ferrybridge coal fired power stations (combined coal fired capacity of 4000MW) in the UK
- the lenders in relation to the financing of a US$620m, 2x360MW coal fired power station in Guangxi Province, PRC which achieved financial close in August 1997. This was the pilot project in the PRC’s build-operate-and-transfer scheme. This involved structuring, drafting and negotiation of finance and security documentation. The lending group comprised commercial banks and COFACE
- the lenders supporting the preferred bidder on the financing of a US$700m, 2x350MW coal fired power station in the PRC, the second project in the PRC’s build-operate-and-transfer scheme. The lending group included commercial banks, SACE, Hermes, COFACE, PRC lenders and ADB
- the sponsors on the US$4.5bn Chad Cameroon Project in Africa. The lending group included commercial banks, COFACE, IBRD, US EXIM and the World Bank.
