Overview

Tobias is a managing associate in Linklaters’ Düsseldorf Antitrust & Foreign Investment Group. His comprehensive expertise covers all aspects of antitrust law.  Tobias advised international clients on several large-scale and complex matters across several jurisdictions, including the EU and Germany. This includes merger control reviews, cartel matters, vertical conduct investigations, follow-on damages litigation, dominance matters, appellate litigation, compliance advice, as well as foreign investment control work. Given his work on several global matters, Tobias is very familiar with key authorities, including in particular the German Federal Cartel Office and the European Commission.

Tobias represents clients across a wide range of key industries, including chemistry, energy, technology, life science, digital economy, industrials, healthcare, mobility and retail. He is a member of the Linklaters ESG Working Group.

Before joining Linklaters, Tobias worked several years for another leading law firm in Cologne and Brussels. 

Work highlights

Tobias’s recent experience includes: 

  • QIAGEN on its proposed merger with Thermo Fisher Scientific; 
  • Covestro on its acquisition of Royal DSM’s resins & functional materials business;  
  • Silgan Holdings Inc. in cartel proceedings before the German Federal Cartel Office and the European Commission concerning alleged anticompetitive conduct in the metal packaging sector, in proceedings before the European Courts and in relation to compliance trainings;
  • McKesson on the formation of a joint venture with Walgreens Boots alliance;
  • Alstom on its proposed merger with Siemens mobility (with previous employer).

Professional experience

Tobias is actively involved in the practice group’s recruiting process acting as mentee for younger colleagues.

Furthermore, Tobias is a member of the German Study Association for Antitrust Lawyers (Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht), and of the German-American Lawyers Association.

Education and qualifications

Tobias studied law in Osnabrück and Stockholm. During his legal training, Tobias gained practical experience by working at two leading international law firms in Berlin. Tobias is currently enrolled in an Executive MBA program at Kellogg/WHU. Tobias speaks German and English.

Tobias regularly publishes on antitrust law.  His publications include:
