Gonçalo Sampaio

Gonçalo joined Linklaters Luxembourg in September 2022, and he has been promoted Managing Associate in May 2024.

Being part of the Financial Regulation Group in Luxembourg, his practice includes providing advice on capital and prudential affairs, the establishment of financial services institutions and passporting rights, reorganizations, governance, and anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing issues.

Gonçalo also has experience advising domestic and international credit institutions, investment firms, payment institutions and other regulated entities on a wide spectrum of financial markets and regulatory matters, including compliance with the MiFID II, PSD II and AMLD frameworks. This includes assisting financial institutions with procedures initiated by supervisory authorities.

Work highlights:

• Crédit Agricole Indosuez Wealth (Europe): assisting Indosuez Wealth Management Group, a subsidiary of French international banking group Crédit Agricole Group, in the context of the acquisition of majority stake in Degroof Petercam.
• CACEIS: advising on the acquisition of the activities of RBC Investor Services in Europe.

Gonçalo holds a law degree and post-graduation degrees in Banking law and Corporate Finance from the Private Law Investigation Center of the Lisbon Faculty of Law. He has started his career as lawyer in an international law firm in Lisbon, where he worked as an Associate prior to joining Linklaters.

He speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish.
