Ian focuses solely on private equity, advising private equity houses and financial sponsor clients on all forms of management buy-outs, management buy-ins, leveraged buy-outs and public-to-private.

Transactions of significance where substantial involvement can be disclosed have included advising:

  • The debtor and sponsor on the restructuring of Italian luxury yacht manufacturer Ferretti
  • Merrill Lynch Private Equity on the €800m acquisition of Euromedic
  • Dubai International Capital on the £600m acquisition of Alliance Medical
  • Dubai International Capital on the acquisition of Almatis
  • CVC Capital Partners on the attempted €13bn acquisition Altadis
  • Quadrangle Capital Partners and GS Capital Partners on the NOK5.8bn acquisition of Get from Candover
  • Macquarie and European Directories SA on the €650m acquisition of TDC Directories
  • Macquarie Capital Alliance Group and Macquarie Bank on the €1.85bn acquisition of the Yellow Road Group
  • A consortium of private equity houses comprising 3i, Candover Partners, Group plc, CCMP on the sale of Vetco Upstream to GE for $2.3bn and the Aibel Business to Ferde Private Equity for $925m. Also acted for the consortium on the ABB’s upstream oil, gas and petrochemicals business for approximately $970m
  • Private equity consortium Osprey Acquisitions Limited and its subsidiary AWG Plc on the disposal of Morrison Utility Services, a UK utility services company to Cognetas and Englefield Capital
  • Global Infrastructure Funds and Macquarie on the £311m acquisition of Itevelesa
  • Candover Partners on the acquisition of EurotaxGlass Group for €480m
  • First Aqua on the acquisition of Southern Water Group
  • Challenger Infrastructure Fund on the $465m acquisition of Inexus Group Holdings Limited
  • The Blackstone Group on the flotation of the care homes provider, Southern Cross, on the London Stock Exchange
  • The Blackstone Group and Southern Cross Healthcare Group on the acquisition of the Ashbourne Group of care homes from Cannon Capital Group
  • The Blackstone Group on its £563.5m cash offer for NHP plc, the care homes provider
  • CVC and Halfords Group Plc on the flotation of Halfords on the London Stock Exchange
