Experience
Tanguy is Global Head of Linklaters’ Privacy and Data Protection Practice, Co-leader of Linklaters’ Global Telecommunications Sector Team and Head of the Technology, Media & Telecommunications (TMT)practice in Brussels. Listed among leading lawyers recommended in TMT (Chambers Europe 2009), Tanguy covers a wide range of matters, including data protection, outsourcing and computer-related transactions, telecommunications as well as e-business and Internet-related issues. With a corporate and commercial law expertise, his practice includes advisory and transactional work (M&A and joint venture) and the conduct of litigation.
Among recent projects, he has advised SWIFT, the leading provider of financial messaging services, in its dealings with the European and Belgian data protection authorities regarding the US Treasury’s access, as part of the fight against terrorism, to the data transported by SWIFT on behalf of financial institutions.
Tanguy is also an expert in healthcare regulations (pharmaceuticals and medical devices).

On 7 May 2010, Tanguy Van Overstraeten (TMT Partner) was invited by Microsoft to address eHealth challenges in terms of data protection & privacy in the framework of a VIP event on eHealth and Cloud Computing gathering industry representatives, academics and EU representatives. Tanguy was the sole lawyer invited at the event which was chaired by John Vassallo, Vice President EU Affairs General Counsel, Microsoft.
