Linklaters bolsters New York antitrust practice with senior criminal defense hire

Linklaters today announced that senior antitrust lawyer, Douglas Tween, has been elected as a partner in its global Antitrust/Competition practice. He will be based in New York and Washington, DC.

Douglas is a market-leading criminal defense lawyer whose practice focuses on defending companies and their senior executives in global cartel, FCPA and other white collar and government enforcement cases. He has extensive courtroom experience. For 15 years prior to joining his last firm, Douglas was a Trial Attorney in the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice (DOJ).  He joins Linklaters from Baker & McKenzie where he was most recently Chair of the firm’s White Collar Practice Group and head of the firm’s New York Litigation Department. Douglas is Chair of the Compliance and Ethics Committee of the American Bar Association’s Antitrust Section and recent past Chair of the Cartel and Criminal Practice Committee. He is also a Non-Governmental Advisor to the International Competition Network. In addition, as a Trial Attorney with the Antitrust Division of the DOJ, he received the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award, the Antitrust Division Award of Distinction, and numerous other citations.

Douglas will join Linklaters’ existing highly-regarded Antitrust team in New York, and lead the firm’s U.S. cartel and government investigations practice.  The New York Antitrust team has worked on numerous major merger control matters including advising  Actavis Group on its sale to Watson Pharmaceuticals, Inc.; Glencore on its acquisition of Xstrata; BP on the sale of its Southern California refinery and retail assets; and Siemens on its acquisition of Rolls-Royce Energy’s aero-derivative gas turbine and compressor business.

Jonas Koponen, head of Linklaters’ global Competition/Antitrust practice, said:

Doug is a high-quality, experienced cartel lawyer who will strengthen our U.S. practice and further differentiate our global Competition/Antitrust practice as one of the few that can genuinely provide top-level cartel advice in all major jurisdictions. His experience in FCPA and other white collar investigations will prove invaluable to our clients. I look forward to what we will accomplish for our clients with Doug as part of the team.”
