Linklaters' leading capital markets practice in the Middle East recognised by IFLR and IFN
Linklaters’ leading Middle East capital markets practice has been independently recognised, winning both awards offered to law firms/teams for capital markets in the Middle East.
Linklaters won “Debt and Equity-Linked Team of the Year” for 2017, awarded by International Financial Law Review (IFLR) Middle East, and “Sukuk Capital Markets Law Firm of the Year” for 2017, awarded by Islamic Finance News (IFN) Law Awards.
IFLR’s award was based on Linklaters having "another standout year, at the helm of some of the most ground-breaking work.” Deals cited by IFLR include Qatar Insurance Company's tier 2 notes, First Gulf Bank's pre-merger liability management transaction and the Sultanate of Oman's series of sovereign issuances, culminating in its first global sukuk issuance. Other noted deals were the Egyptian sovereign issuances and Bahrain’s first tier 1 sukuk issuance, by Al Baraka Banking Group.
The judging panel at the IFN awards highlighted 14 innovative deals that Linklaters advised on during the past year, including sovereign sukuk deals by the Sultanate of Oman and deals from a variety of sectors including energy and utilities, financial institutions, real estate, leisure and sovereign wealth funds. “Linklaters showed a remarkable global reach”, commented IFN.
The IFN award follows success for Linklaters at the IFN “Deal of the Year” awards ceremony earlier this year. Linklaters were awarded six sukuk “Deal of the Year” awards including, for the second time in three years, the main overall “Deal of the Year” award.
Dubai partner Jonathan Fried, who leads the capital markets practice in the Middle East, commented: “That both IFLR and IFN have chosen Linklaters as the team and firm of the year is down to the focus and hard work of our lawyers and the trust of our clients. We advise clients on their most significant international transactions and the deals that IFLR and IFN refer to show that our clients are trusting us to do just that, across the full range of capital markets products – bonds and sukuk.”
Linklaters' capital markets practice in the Middle East is ranked in the top tier by each of IFLR, Legal 500 and Chambers Global. We advise banks, corporates and governments on the full range of debt and equity capital markets products.
