Business Crime Quarterly Summer 2015
This edition of Business Crime Quarterly highlights the risk of corruption and bribery to all sectors, from healthcare, to the defence industry, to the production of water tanks. We note the differing outcomes of prosecutions of individuals in France, the U.S. and the UK and report on the unprecedented fines levied by U.S. regulators on global banks involved in the manipulation of the FX markets.
Businesses, from major international corporations to small and medium sized enterprises, still have a long way to go towards instilling effective ABC policies in their culture and practice, according to the findings of three recent surveys. However, the dividends to be gained from doing so are clear – companies with a commitment to identifying and preventing corruption do better. The tone must be set from the top - new laws in Spain and government proposals under discussion in Australia and Germany to bolster inadequate anti-corruption legislation, do exactly that.
