Overview

Owen has led two of the firm’s corporate M&A groups in London for six years and was co-head of Linklaters’ energy sector for seven years. He has played a leading role in the development of the firm’s practice in this sector. Owen was based in our Moscow office from 1995 to 1998. He is currently Chair of the Partnership Board’s Corporate Responsibility Committee and is the firm’s Global Pro Bono Partner.

Owen has a multi-specialist practice including corporate finance, public and private M&A, joint ventures, demergers, regulatory investigations and corporate governance.

Owen manages the firm’s relationship with a number of clients, including BP, Glencore, INEOS, Centrica, Petrofac, Britvic, Mitie Group, BAE Systems and Genel Energy. He has strong relationships with his clients at board and ExCom levels and is named as one of Linklaters’ leading corporate practitioners in Chambers Global Guide.

Work Highlights

Owen has led on a wide range of corporate M&A and corporate finance transactions. These include advising:

  • BP on the sale of its petrochemicals business to INEOS
  • Mitie Group on its £200m rights issue and class 1 acquisition of Interserve’s facilities management business
  • Prax Group on its acquisition of Total’s Lindsay oil refinery and associated infrastructure
  • Glencore on the sale of a majority stake in its oil storage and distribution business, the acquisition of Chevron’s business in South Africa, the formation of the UC Rusal joint venture and its IPO
  • Petrofac on the sale of 49% of its operations in Mexico to Perenco and the execution of new banking facilities with existing relationship banks
  • Ben Ainslie Racing on the formation of INEOS Team UK to challenge for the 36th Americas Cup
  • Home Retail Group on its takeover by J Sainsbury
  • Britvic on its successful defence against a takeover by AG Barr
  • Centrica on its £2.2bn rights issue and in relation to its nuclear joint venture with EDF  
  • BAE Systems on the formation and restructuring of the MBDA missiles joint venture

Professional experience

In addition to being Chair of the Partnership Board’s Corporate Responsibility Committee and the firm’s global pro bono partner, Owen is a keen supporter of the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiatives and mentoring schemes.
