Trustee Agenda Autumn 2019

Welcome to our “back to school” edition of Trustee Agenda.

The past few years have seen a concerted effort by the Pensions Regulator to improve pension scheme governance for all schemes, regardless of their size. That energy and focus continues and in this edition of Trustee Agenda we put the spotlight on a consultation published by the Pensions Regulator on the future of trusteeship and governance, primarily aimed at smaller schemes.

Trustees and their responsibilities particularly in relation to investment matters have also received a good deal of focus. With this in mind, we also put the spotlight on what trustees need to do and when, in relation to the new investment and disclosure obligations and on the updated guidance from the Pensions Regulator on investment governance for DC schemes.

Our final two articles consider respectively a recent High Court decision which looked at the duty of trustees (and employers) to warn pension scheme members about the possible loss of protected pension age and what trustees should consider when paying lump sum death benefits.
