Overview

Alex’s practice focuses on international finance. He has experience with debt and equity capital markets and regulation; structured finance and commodities; project finance for renewable energy and infrastructure; cross-border banking, including leveraged finance, fund finance and acquisition finance; and cross-border mergers, acquisitions and asset sales.

Work highlights

Alex has advised clients on a wide range of complex international transactions. These include advising:

  • global corporations and financial institutions in connection with a variety of Regulation S and 144A transactions and liability management operations;
  • global clients in connection with initial public offerings and shelf registrations in the United States;
  • leading financial institutions in respect of structured finance programs, including commodities-linked debt issuances and diversified payment rights programs;
  • Banco do Brasil as the borrower under a $500 million A/B loan agreement from Inter-American Investment Corporation used to finance Sub-Loans by Banco do Brasil to micro and small-sized enterprises operating in agrobusiness in underserved regions of Brazil;
  • clients in Europe and Latin America on SEC reporting obligations;
  • sponsors of a 115.5MW AC wind turbine project and associated electrical substation and interconnection line in Chile in a project financing;
  • sponsors of a solar holding company for a project bond issuance in Brazil;
  • sponsors of an 85 MW hydroelectric plant and transmission line in Perú in a project financing.

Alex’s pro bono practice focuses on non-profit incorporations and immigration, asylum and naturalization cases.

 

Professional experience

Alex was the Editor in Chief of the Columbia Journal of European Law in its 22nd Volume.

Education and qualifications

Alex received a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University. He holds a master’s degree in international economics from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies, and holds a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School.

Alex speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French.

Alex has been a member of the New York Bar since 2017.
