Overview

Alexander is a tax counsel in our London office. He has a broad practice with a particular interest in investment funds and large-scale public and private M&A transactions. For investment funds transactions Alexander advises from the structuring stage onwards, including on related matters such as executive reward, downstream acquisitions and investor taxation. His M&A experience spans private-equity backed acquisitions to strategic disposals and public listings. He has deep UK tax technical expertise, and also frequently works together with our other international tax practices and with tax counsel outside Linklaters.

Work highlights

  • Unilever: advising on the strategic €4.5bn disposal of its global tea business to CVC and on the historic simplification of its dual-listed structure.
  • A real estate fund manager: advising on the establishment and closings of the manager’s first GP led secondary vehicle / continuation fund and on the >€3.5bn establishment and first closing of their fifth-generation opportunistic real estate fund targeting investments within Europe.
  • Ardian: advising on a number of significant fundraisings, such as their approximately €3.8bn infrastructure fund, Ardian Infrastructure Fund V S.C.A., SICAR. 
  • Fund managers: structuring and implementing carried interest for UK managers, as well as leading investor negotiations in relation to contractual allocation of tax risk across a variety of credit and real estate funds.
  • TDR Capital: structuring and implementing the acquisition of BCA Marketplace plc, a public to private transaction with an offer valuation of £1.9bn. 
  • Endeavour Mining: advising on its redomiciliation to the UK and dual-listing on the London Stock Exchange and TSX, and its US$100m share buyback programme.

Education and qualifications

Alexander studied Latin, ancient Greek and biblical Hebrew at the University of Oxford.
