Overview

Chris advises lenders, financial sponsors and their portfolio companies on cross-border debt financings, refinancings and restructurings. He has particular knowledge of sponsor-backed leveraged acquisition finance and is conversant with bank and bond structures, term loan B financings (including covenant lite loans), super-senior revolving credit facilities and post-IPO financings.

Chris spent a total of 18 months seconded to the leveraged finance and high-yield teams of JP Morgan and Citibank, which gives him a deep understanding of the internal workings of origination, credit and execution teams, allowing him to provide practical and tailored advice to bank and sponsor clients. He also spent two years on secondment to the firm’s Madrid office and speaks Spanish.

Work highlights

Chris has advised on many complex financings. Recent examples include advising:

  • the mandated lead arrangers on the high-yield bond and super-senior financing supporting Blackstone’s acquisition of Cirsa Gaming;
  • the mandated lead arrangers on the €1.97bn equivalent senior secured term loan B and €445m senior bridge facility and high-yield notes in connection with PAI’s public to private acquisition of Refresco, a Dutch bottling company;
  • the mandated lead arrangers on the term loan B financing and various high-yield offerings and bridge facilities for Unilabs, an Apax portfolio company;
  • the mandated lead arrangers on the term loan B financing for KKR’s acquisition of Portaventura;
  • BC Partners on its €790m term loan B and PIK financing in connection with the acquisition of Keter Plastics, an Israeli plastics manufacturer;
  • CVC on the €200m super senior revolving credit facility and €600m high-yield bond refinancing for Cortefiel, a Spanish clothing retailer.

Professional experience

Chris regularly delivers training for the Loan Market Association (LMA) on a variety of topics relating to leveraged finance, most recently on the developments which have transformed documentation in the European leveraged finance market in recent years as a result of the convergence between loan and high-yield bond products.

Education and qualifications

Chris studied law at the University of Bristol.
