Overview

Joana’s professional experience has been focused, from the outset, on Corporate Law, both in terms of advising on corporate restructuring & transactions, as well as on the key issues that arise in client’s business activity, advising domestic and foreign corporate clients across several market sectors, including the energy, distribution (beverages, automotive industry), services and infrastructure sector. She furthermore gained experience in Corporate Finance & Capital Markets matters.

Professional experience

While at university, Joana started her legal career attending two summer internships, first at Macedo Vitorino & Associados and later at Garrigues Portugal, both law firms in Lisbon. Joana then did her traineeship at the law firm MLGTS (2010 – 2013), and then worked for PLMJ as an Associate (2014 – 2018). She currently works at the Linklaters Lisbon office, also as an Associate.

In addition to legal working experience Joana also gained valuable experience working as a volunteer for charitable causes, both locally in Lisbon, and internationally, in Cambodia.

Education and qualifications

Joana obtained her Law degree from the Law School of the University of Lisbon in 2009. In 2010, Joana completed an LL.M. from the Global School of Law of the Catholic University of Lisbon named “Law in a European and Global Context”.

While working as a trainee-lawyer, Joana prepared and presented her master thesis and subsequently obtained her master degree (as an addition to the LL.M. program). Also during her traineeship, Joana completed an extension course in Arbitration from the Law School of the Nova University of Lisbon.

While working as an Associate, Joana completed a post-graduation course on Corporate Finance from the Law School of the University of Lisbon as well as an LL.M from the Global School of Law of the Catholic University of Lisbon named “International Business Law”, which she finished in 2017.
