Margin requirements for uncleared OTC derivatives
After an extended wait, the European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs) published the final draft Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) detailing the margin requirements for uncleared OTC derivatives on 8 March 2016. While the draft still needs to be endorsed by the European Commission (and reviewed by the Parliament and Council), we now have a much better idea of the requirements that will be phased in from 1 September 2016.
This note explores a number of the key provisions of the new EU margin rules and considers the practical implications for participants in the OTC derivatives market.
