Linklaters advises Delhaize on €26bn cross-border merger with Dutch retailer Ahold

Linklaters has advised Delhaize Group S.A., the Belgian-headquartered international food retailer, on its €26bn merger of equals with and into Ahold, its Dutch-headquartered equivalent.

The deal is one of the largest cross-border mergers in Europe ever and will create one of the largest food retailers in Europe and the USA, serving more than 50 million people per week and generating around €54bn in aggregated annual sales. The Linklaters team, which provided European advice on the deal, was led by corporate partner Eric Pottier, in Brussels. Other partners involved were Pieter Riemer (corporate, Amsterdam), Henk Vanhulle (tax, Brussels) and Bernd Meyring (competition, Brussels).
