Michael Bennett appointed new head of dispute resolution at Linklaters

Michael Bennett has been appointed Linklaters’ new global head of dispute resolution.

Michael has been a partner at the firm since 1998. He has practised in New York and Hong Kong, and is now based in London.

He is a litigator with over 20 years of experience in handling high-profile commercial and regulatory disputes and major corporate and regulatory investigations. He focuses particularly on the contentious aspects of large scale M&A and joint venture disputes and has significant experience in managing legal, regulatory and reputational risk in commercially sensitive situations. He has led the London litigation and arbitration practice since 2007.

Michael’s most recent experience includes advising on fraud investigations and allegations of corruption, dealing with the SFO and other international regulatory and enforcement bodies. He has acted for a number of clients, including BP, on their highest profile disputes.

Commenting on Michael’s appointment, Linklaters’ firmwide managing partner, Simon Davies, said:

“Dispute resolution is a fundamental component of our global offering and one where our credentials stand out. Michael’s global outlook and on-the-ground litigation and cross border investigations experience, matured in three of the world’s key legal markets, make him ideally suited to leading our global litigation and arbitration offering.”

He added:

“Our Dispute Resolution Division provides clients with top quality contentious expertise globally and complements the offering that our Corporate and Finance divisions provide. The opportunity to enhance and broaden that expertise is an exciting new challenge.”

Michael, who will also sit on the firm’s management committee, begins his four year term with immediate effect. He succeeds Arnaud de La Cotardière whose term has come to an end and who will now be focusing on client work.
