Overview

Isabella’s practice focuses on corporate, financing transactions, and debt-restructurings. Her transactional experience includes advising Brazilian and international clients in complex, cross-border M&A deals and private equity investments. She has represented banks in financing and in complex debt-restructuring transactions. She also has experience on compliance investigations in foreign entities under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act.

Isabella’s recent experience includes advising:

  • the Brazilian wood panel manufacturer Duratex on the US$1bn joint venture with Austrian cellulose fiber producer Lenzing to build a pulp mill in Brazil
  • Whirlpool Corporation on the pending US$1.08bn sale of its Brazilian compressor business, Embraco, to Nidec Corporation, a leading Japanese manufacturer of electric motors
  • a U.S. private equity fund in the acquisition of a substantial stake in a Brazilian pharmacy benefits company
  • the founders of a leading Brazilian specialist pet retailer of food, accessories and services in the company’s corporate reorganization and in the subsequent acquisition of the company’s control by an international private equity fund
  • financial institutions in the renegotiation of the US$1.5bn debt held by a Brazilian sugar and alcohol conglomerate
  • an international power company regarding compliance matters and in a large anticorruption investigation

Professional experience

Isabella recently worked as a Foreign Attorney at Hogan and Lovells in São Paulo, Brazil and New York. Previously, she was an Associate at Pinheiro Guimarães – Advogados in São Paulo, Brazil.

Education and qualifications

Isabella studied law at Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in Brazil, where she received her Bachelor of Laws (JD equivalent) in 2006. She also completed a post-graduate degree in Brazilian business law at Fundação Getúlio Vargas – FGV in São Paulo in 2010 and holds a LL.M from Columbia Law School.

She was recently ranked by the IFLR1000 as a "Notable practitioner" in the areas of private equity, financial restructuring and debt capital markets.

Isabella speaks fluent English and Portuguese.
