Overview

Paul is head of the firm’s UK real estate construction practice and he has a wide range of experience in non-contentious construction-related development work acting for occupiers, investors, funders and developers on premium mixed-use urban regeneration developments, headquarters buildings, retail, hotel and leisure projects, logistics, student accommodation and arts developments.

In collaboration with other practices in the firm, Paul also advises on construction aspects of finance, investment and corporate real estate deals, as well as providing commercially focused due diligence.

Work highlights

Paul has led on or been a key adviser on many high-profile construction and construction-related development and property deals. His experience includes advising:

  • AustralianSuper, the Australian pension fund, on both of its investments in the King’s Cross Central mixed-used regeneration project
  • UBS on the fit-out of its new London headquarters at 5 Broadgate in the City of London
  • an investment bank on its City of London HQ relocation, being the largest pre-let ever in the City of London
  • two of the investors on the £1bn 22 Bishopsgate development, the 62-storey tower in the City of London
  • a Japanese investor on its redevelopment of a listed office building in the City of London and pre-letting to Nikkei Europe Limited
  • a British retail and commercial bank on the £325m refinancing of MediaCityUK, Salford, Manchester
  • Carillion/Richardsons Capital joint venture on its Freemans Reach headquarters office development scheme, Durham, Northeast England
  • British Land on its 201 Bishopsgate, Broadgate Tower and Ropemaker Place developments in the City of London
  • Abu Dhabi Financial Group on the ongoing redevelopment of a central London office building to provide mixed-use residential, office and retail space
  • Global Banking and Financial Services on the development financing of the Tribeca Square mixed-use scheme at the Elephant and Castle, Southeast London
  • Richardsons Capital on the design and construction of a student accommodation building for Lincoln University

Professional experience

Paul is a member of the Society of Construction Law and the British Council for Offices.

Education and qualifications

Paul obtained a masters degree in French and German from the University of Edinburgh and holds a post-graduate diploma in law from Nottingham Law School.
