The General Data Protection Regulation: The end of the beginning
May 2018 marks the biggest shake-up to privacy laws for 20 years, as the General Data Protection Regulation finally applies across the EU. However, this is not the end of your privacy compliance programme or even the beginning of the end. Instead, it marks the transition from preparation to implementation.
This session will provide an overview of the issues you need to consider as we approach this critical transition. It will:
- discuss the position across the EU, including the status of Member States’ implementing laws and their use of national derogations on issues such as the appointment of data protection officers
- look in detail at the UK Data Protection Bill and its implications for data processing in the UK
- consider the latest status of guidance from regulators on the General Data Protection Regulation
- examine the wider privacy space, including the Network and Information Systems Directive and the proposals for a Regulation on Privacy and Electronic Communications
This seminar will be of interest to in-house legal and general commercial and compliance teams.
