Overview

Kanyaka is a corporate partner based in London. She advises on a wide range of corporate and commercial matters across different sectors but with a focus on the insurance sector. She has a broad base of experience including public and private M&A, equities, general corporate advisory and, more recently, transactional and advisory work in the insurance sector, including Part VII insurance business transfers and Solvency II expertise.

Kanyaka has spent time in the firm’s Sao Paulo and Tokyo offices as well as on secondment to Vodafone and Aviva.

Work highlights

Kanyaka has advised on a diverse range of corporate deals. These include advising:

  • Old Mutual plc on the managed separation of its four constituent businesses into independent businesses (including the demerger/listing of Quilter plc and the listing of Old Mutual Limited)
  • AXA on the sale of its UK Life & Savings businesses, which included three separate sales to the Phoenix Group, Standard Life and LCCG, and on its partnership with the Africa Internet Group
  • Aviva on two Part VII transfers of its life insurance business to implement a corporate re-organisation following the acquisition of Friends Life, and on the sale of its Turkish general insurance business
  • Vodafone on its acquisition of Cable & Wireless Worldwide
  • Britvic on its successful defence against a takeover bid by AG Barr, and on a cash placing to fund an acquisition
  • various investors on the sale of House of Fraser to Sanpower
  • the underwriting banks on the $5.9 billion rights issue by Xstrata plc

Education and qualifications

Kanyaka studied law at the National Law School of India University.

She speaks English and Hindi.
