Business and Human Rights

There is growing awareness of the human rights risks and impacts attributable to businesses, not only through their operations, but also in their supply chains, business relationships, and in their dealings with local communities and other stakeholders.  Businesses are increasingly expected to be transparent about the ways in which they are effectively managing these risks, and Governments across the globe have started to introduce mandatory reporting requirements to reinforce this. Managing human rights risks and impacts is now becoming a prominent aspect of corporate risk management and compliance.

This seminar will explain these emerging new trends and explore their impact , including on M&A transactions. We will also discuss how companies may themselves deploy human rights protections to protect their interests.

Speakers will include members of Linklaters cross-border Business and Human Rights team:
  • Françoise Lefèvre (Partner, Dispute Resolution) who will explain the growing importance of this issue for businesses
  • Vanessa Havard-Williams (Partner, Co-Head of Business and Human Rights, Crisis Response and Risk Management, London) who will present the London experience of human rights risk management
  • Filip Lecoutre (Counsel, Corporate/M&A) who will explain how human rights due diligence could be integrated into Belgian corporate and M&A practice
  • Xavier Taton (Counsel, Dispute Resolution) who will explore the risks of liability and the opportunities of defence in relation to the international law on human rights
Who should attend this seminar?

Compliance teams involved in M&A transactions and reporting, legal teams, and those interested in learning more about the growing impact of human rights on business.
