London Seminar Programme - US economic sanctions: navigating the rocky shoals

As the US Government’s foreign policy tool du jour, US economic sanctions regulations present a particularly complex, high-risk, ever-changing mix of law, policy, economics, and international relations that must be navigated with great care. Recently, US sanctions regulations with respect to Russia and Iran have expanded considerably, whereas the US embargo of Sudan has been almost entirely lifted. With penalties for sanctions violations reaching new highs, the once relatively sleepy realm of the US regulatory universe is heating up, the stakes have never been higher, and the need for informed decision-making and robust compliance programmes has never been greater.

This seminar will provide an overview of US sanctions regulations, focussing on the current state of play with respect to issues of enforcement and other practical considerations.

This seminar will be of interest to:

In-house lawyers wishing a high-level introduction to US economic sanctions.
