Linklaters joins R3’s Legal Centre of Excellence
Linklaters has entered into a collaboration with enterprise software firm, R3 as part of its Legal Centre of Excellence (LCoE). Launched in February, R3’s LCoE provides a platform for the global legal community to receive the latest updates and share best practices regarding blockchain technology and training workshops for R3’s blockchain platform Corda, built with the purpose of recording and enforcing business agreements among financial institutions.
R3 has a network of over 200 financial institutions, regulators, professional services firms and technology companies that are developing on Corda. As a member of the LCoE, Linklaters will be able to provide feedback on structuring of distributed ledger systems and development of smart contracts for use on Corda.
The collaboration will allow Linklaters access to R3’s research on blockchain and to participate in monthly project demonstrations that give members a practical understanding of real world distributed ledger applications. This will ensure that our lawyers have a strong understanding of the technology and are optimally equipped to advise clients on legal and regulatory issues associated with blockchain and distributed ledger technology.
Richard Hay, Head of Fintech at Linklaters, said:
“Our collaboration with R3 is part of our commitment to deliver innovative and efficient solutions for our clients. By developing our practical understanding of real world distributed ledger applications, we can explore new ways for how we and our clients can use this new technology.”
