Employment Updates: Amendments to Employment Act and New Tripartite Standards

The Singapore employment landscape continues to see a number of significant changes in the course of 2018 and 2019. This update takes a look at:

  • the amendments to the Employment Act which are expected to be laid before Parliament to, amongst other things, expand the legislation’s coverage to more employees;
  • the tightening of rules by MOM on the employment of foreign employees; and
  • the release of three new Tripartite Standards on (i) the procurement of services from media freelancers, (ii) unpaid leave for unexpected care needs and (iii) contracting with self-employed persons.
