Linklaters champions equal rights with the launch of Ally programme
Linklaters has established the firm’s first network supporting minority groups, the Ally programme, focusing on LGBT people. The Ally programme was launched at the Tate Modern, London on 16 October 2014. The event was attended by 300 people, including clients, members of charitable organisations such as the Albert Kennedy Trust and OUTstanding and Linklaters’ own LGBT network.
Nicola Rabson, Head of Linklaters’ UK employment and incentives practice, is the sponsor of the initiative. She was recently named one of OUTstanding’s Top 20 Business Allies. Speaking at the launch of Linklaters’ Allies, Nicola said:
“Our Ally programme will enable individuals within Linklaters to make a positive impact on their working environment, for their own and for their co-workers’ benefit. It will engender humanity into our business-focused working lives where sometimes the financials, objectives, strategies and mission statements can lead us to forget that we are responsible for where we work, both individually and collectively.
“I am confident that our ally programme, and the sentiment that we bring with it, will be a sign to everyone that Linklaters is a place where people can truly be themselves.”
With the emphasis, at first, on straight people advocating the equality of members of the LGBT community, as Linklaters’ programme expands, Allies can also be, for example:
- men championing women’s rights
- non-disabled people championing the rights of those with disabilities.
Allies are people who make an effort to educate themselves; speak up; are honest; and support equality. Allies will range from different levels of seniority and functions, building on Linklaters’ progress in diversity and inclusion.
