Simon is widely recognised as a leading China cross-border transaction specialist. He has extensive experience in cross-border M&A, direct investments and joint ventures, as well as project developments in China.
Simon has particular expertise in transactions in the automotive sector, with specialist knowledge of electric vehicle, e-connectivity and other e-mobility-related projects. He has advised various key market players on their significant M&A and JV transactions in China, Europe and the U.S., both in the e-mobility sector and the traditional automotive sector.
Simon is a lead partner in the firm’s Technology sector group and frequently advises on tech issues relating to e-mobility.

- a world-leading electric vehicle Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) on entering into the Chinese market and setting up its China EV manufacturing base;
- a major international internet company on its joint venture with a Chinese company involving the manufacturing of electric vehicles in China;
- a Chinese OEM for its international expansion of EV efforts relating to acquisition of battery related technologies and autonomous driving technologies;
- a worldwide leading advertisement company on investing in internet-based advertisement businesses in China;
- a major European energy company on its BOT-PPP projects development in China.
Professional experience
Simon speaks frequently at conferences, including at the Sino-European Entrepreneurs Summit, the annual gathering of the foremost business leaders from Europe, and at the FT Future of the Car Summit in May 2019.
Education and qualifications
Simon has a BA degree of law from Beijing University, and holds two masters’ degrees (public law and business law), and a PhD in law from Bordeaux University, France. Simon also holds a LLM degree from New York University, School of Law.
He speaks English, Mandarin and French.
