Introduction of class actions in Belgian law

On 20 January 2014, a draft bill introducing a class action in Belgian law was published on the website of the Chamber. Such class action will allow a (potentially large) group of consumers to obtain monetary compensation for damages caused by an undertaking as a result of a breach of contract or of a number of specific legislations.

In light of the numerous legal and practical questions raised by the draft bill, Linklaters Belgium will organize a client seminar as soon as the bill has been adopted by Parliament, in order to discuss these questions and identify their implications for the undertakings concerned.
