The Government has published its proposed amendments to the Town and Country Planning (Use Classes) Order 1987 (“UCO”) which include a number of new use classes applicable in England. The continued change in people’s shopping habits coupled with the rise of ecommerce (exacerbated by Covid-19) has accelerated the decline of traditional high streets across the UK. The Government hopes that the new use classes will better reflect the diversity of uses currently found on high streets and in town centres across the UK.
