Adam is a senior banking partner with over 20 years experience of advising on financing transactions, principally those relating to acquisitions. He is a highly regarded practitioner throughout the European leveraged finance market.

He is global head of the firm’s leveraged finance practice and co-head of the firm’s financial sponsor sector, has been a partner since 2002 and joined the Linklaters’ banking team in 2005.

Adam has extensive experience in all types of leveraged and acquisition finance transactions, including financial restructurings with a particular focus on acting for both lenders and financial sponsors on cross-border leveraged buy-outs.

Adam has been a key advisor in respect of the developments that have transformed documentation in the European leveraged finance market over the last few years, particularly the use of “covenant lite” technology as a result of the convergence between loan and high-yield bond products. Adam has also been closely involved in advising clients on the increased use of direct lending solutions in financial sponsor deals.

Work highlights

Adam has led on a number of significant complex financing transactions. These include advising: 

  • the arrangers on the circa £2 billion financing to support the bid by Blackstone and CVC for the Paysafe Group
  • eircom on the refinancing of the group’s facilities
  • the arrangers on the circa £1 billion financing to support the acquisition of Parkdean resorts by Onex
  • Apollo on the recapitalisation of Verallia, following Apollo’s acquisition of Verallia that involved an innovative mix of high-yield bonds and loans as part of the financing in France’s largest leveraged buyout of 2015 
  • the arrangers on the financing of the leveraged buy-out by CVC of DOC Generici
  • the board of directors of Biffa on financing matters
  • Eurazeo on the debt financing aspects of its acquisition of Fintrax, at the time the largest direct lending deal in Europe
  • CVC on the financing of its acquisition of Delachaux
  • the arrangers on the refinancing of IDC Salud

Professional experience

Adam is a member of the Loan Market Association’s working group on leveraged finance issues. 

Adam co-authored  a chapter about  intercreditor agreements for the LMA “Loan Book” in 2011 which is being updated in 2016.

Education and qualifications

Adam studied law at the University of Birmingham.
