John is a Counsel in the Financial Regulation team.

He has over 25 years’ experience in financial markets regulation, handling a wide range of matters relating to the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 and the rules of FSA including protection of banks, brokers and counterparties against credit and insolvency risk in financial markets transactions both on and off exchange, including in particular protection of security over assets held with clearing systems and depositaries as well as netting arrangements and licensing requirements in the UK and throughout Europe via the passporting procedures of the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive and Banking Consolidation Directive, structuring of financial services businesses, design and implementation of compliance procedures and documentation, intra-group and external outsourcing arrangements, reviews of multi-jurisdictional compliance obligations, routine compliance reviews and regulatory investigations.

He has also advised extensively in relation to client money and asset related issues arising from the insolvency of Lehman Brothers.
