Marta Martins da Costa

Marta is an Associate in the Lisbon Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations department. 

Her recent practice has focused on litigation and arbitration with special emphasis on corporate litigation. 

Marta advises national and international clients that operate in a wide variety of sectors, such as, the financial, real estate, infrastructure, health, energy and telecoms sectors. 

In addition to her legal practice Marta also teaches Civil Law & Commercial Law at the Catholic University of Lisbon and is currently writing her PhD thesis on construction agreements, more particularly issues concerning disruption claims. 

Marta joined the Lisbon office of Linklaters in 2023, as Consultant in its Litigation, Arbitration & Investigations Department. 

She started her legal career in 2017 as a Trainee Lawyer at the local law firm Vieira de Almeida & Associados, working in Health Law and Dispute Resolution, where she became an Associate in 2019, working in the Dispute Resolution Department. 

Marta then served as a Legal Adviser in the Office of the Minister of Justice (22nd Portuguese Constitutional Government).

Besides being a legal practitioner, Marta is a Guest Assistant Teacher at the Catholic University of Lisbon, where she teaches Civil Law & Commercial Law.

Formerly she was a Member of the Board of the Católica Research Centre for the Future of Law of the Catholic University of Lisbon.

Marta was a speaker in conferences related to the impact of Covid-19 on the performance and enforcement of contracts.

Marta holds a Law Degree of the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (2015). She then completed a research based Master´s Degree in Corporate Law at the same institution (2017).

Marta is a PhD candidate and is currently working on her PhD thesis in construction agreements, more particularly issues concerning disruption claims. 
During her studies Marta consecutively won awards for her academic merits.

She is a fully qualified Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 2019.

Marta speaks Portuguese and English.
