Valérie Heremans

Valérie advises clients in both transactional and regulatory matters with a focus on data protection, information technology (including procurement and outsourcing) and electronic communication-related matters.

Valérie has gained significant experience assisting Belgian and international clients in the context of large-scale cross-border and cross-practice matters in diversified sectors . She also gained strong in-house legal experience and an understanding of stakeholders’ concerns during her secondment in the data protection and IT team of a global pharma company.

Valérie also assists clients in a range of IP matters, especially transactional matters involving licensing agreements, copyrights, know-how and trademarks.

Valérie has been recognised as a ‘Rising Star’ in the area of data protection in Belgium (Legal 500, Belgium, 2022). 

Work highlights

Valérie has gained important experience in advising client on data protection and information governance matters.

Her recent experience include advising:

• a growing number of international clients in relation to global data breaches and data transfers
• A French global bank on the development and adoption of Binding Corporate Rules to enable international data transfers within the group
• an international pharmaceutical company in the development of a privacy-compliant online patient support program
• a listed Belgian company with the outsourcing of their IT department globally towards a third party supplier
• an international retail holding on an investigation relating to fraud by some of its managers, including to enable access to and communication of personal data in compliance with applicable data protection and telecom laws

Valérie joined Linklaters in 2016 after having started her career in a leading Belgian law firm and has been a Managing Associate in the TMT/IP Practice since 2022.

From March 2018 till September 2022, Valérie was seconded part-time to a global pharma company headquartered in Brussels.

Valérie holds a Master’s in Law from the Catholic University of Louvain and a Specialised Master in Information Technology and Communication Law from the University of Namur.

She speaks French, English, Dutch and Polish
