Education and qualifications


Emma is a Counsel in the London Corporate team with extensive UK and international experience advising our financial institution clients.

She has advised a number of major clients on noteworthy transformational and cross-border M&A transactions, as well as complex intra-group reorganisations, joint ventures and general corporate governance advisory matters.

Emma has particular expertise in bank sector transactions, including advising on the UK ring-fencing regime and a significant number of Part VII transfer schemes. Emma is a member of the firm’s Bank Sector leadership team.

Between 2012 and 2016, Emma was based in our Abu Dhabi and Dubai offices, specialising in advising regional and international clients on joint ventures and private M&A. Whilst there, Emma worked on several innovative transactions in the financial institutions sector.

Emma has also spent time in our Amsterdam office and was seconded to The Royal Bank of Scotland for nine months.

Work highlights

Emma has advised a wide range of financial institutions clients. Those that can be disclosed include:

  • BNP Paribas on the English corporate law aspects of their investment in the Spanish group Allfunds Bank
  • a major UK financial institution on the execution of their structural reform project between 2016 and 2019
  • Barclays Bank plc on the disposal of their retail portfolio in the UAE to Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank PJSC, an innovative transaction which won IFLR Middle East M&A Deal of the Year and Islamic Finance News Corporate Finance Deal of the Year
  • Julius Baer Group on its CHF860m acquisition of Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s international wealth management business, a complex cross-border transaction involving the acquisition of businesses in 24 jurisdictions
  • RBS on the separation and demerger of ABN AMRO Bank N.V. to the State of the Netherlands

Emma studied Law at the London School of Economics.
