Overview

Luc is widely regarded as one of Belgium’s top employment lawyers, advising national and international corporates and individuals on all aspects of labour law.

 

Luc has extensive experience in individual termination, collective dismissals and closure of undertakings, dismissal of protected employees, discrimination issues, employment benefits and pension plans, negotiations with employee representative bodies, expatriates, social security, union actions and strikes, and labour litigation. He also advises on general employment law, including EU law.

 

Work highlights

Luc has advised on the employment aspects of many corporate transactions over many years. These include advising:

 

  • ISG: assisting and advising the client on a major social inspection on a large construction site managed by ISG and involving more than hundred subcontractors
  • Delhaize Group, the Belgian-headquartered international food retailer, on its successful €25bn merger with Ahold, its Dutch-headquartered equivalent, one of the largest cross-border mergers in Europe
  • on approximately 200 litigations following the closure by Ford Motor Company of its car plant in Genk, Belgium

Professional experience

Luc is a member of the Brussels Flemish Bar Council.

 

Luc is president of the appellate disciplinary court for the Belgian Volleyball Federation.

 

Luc is also a director of the non-profit organisation, Ter Heide, which offers professional support to children in distress.

Education and qualifications

Luc studied law at the University of Leuven and holds a master’s in comparative law from the University of Illinois.
